An improved coal nozzle tip for a pulverized coal fired burner having one or more splitter plates disposed therein. Each splitter plate is formed of a first portion of highly abrasion resistant material disposed at the inlet end of the coal nozzle tip and a second portion of highly heat resistant material disposed at the outlet end of the coal nozzle tip.
